Nothing to add to BK6 from this thread

I am having yet another clearout of my family history memorabilia and don't know what to do with this book - any ideas would be much appreciated.

It's called "The Inns of Court Officers Training Corps during the Great War" and is soft bound and 375 pages. The vast majority of the book (over 300 pages) is devoted to a list of all the officers who passed through the Inns of Court OTC during WW1 along with their postal addresses where appropriate, decoartions awarded and various other bits of army info. The rest of the book mainly details the history of the corps.

My grandfather is listed in the book, but there is nothing in his entry that I don't have recorded elsewhere, so the book is just another bit of clutter I could do without.

Any ideas where I might dispose of it?

Is it the original (1922) or a reprint (2001 or later) ? You could sell it on Amazon Marketplace for about £15 if it's a reprint and it looks as though you could name your price if it's an original as there are none available.

Oooh! I guess it's an original as I've had it since well before 2001!! There's no date in it though :( I guess my grandfather bought this copy in 1922.

So..........what price shall I name? :D

Hmmm, Abebooks have one listed for £38 and another for £40 but they say it's a hardcover.

Thanks for that info......I will give it some thought.

I see the book is available to view online as it's been uploaded by the University of California.

Oh, might not be so easy to sell then. Maybe your local record office would like it?

Just because its online doesn't mean that no one wants to buy it!

There is an out of print book which has been copied and recopied onto disk and does the rounds at about a fiver a go. But the original book, when it surfaces, still sells for round about £200.

Would you have time to look up somebody for me? My mother's cousin Percy Pool Harrison from Derby was in the Inns of Court OTC. I was given some information about him by the 1914-18 forum, but I'm not sure where it came from, so there may not be anything extra in your book.

Here's his entry:

* HARRISON Percy Pool
4/5/4747, 12/7/15; Notts. & Derby. R., 14/10/15; F; Capt.
Died of Wounds 20/10/17.

I expect some of that will need translating from army speak. There's a half-useful explanation at the start of the section of the book, so I'll have a look at that later. Off out now.

The asterisk at the start of the entry denotes KIA, or died of wounds or killed or died. In the book the * is actually a Maltese cross.

The 4/5/ may refer to 4th and 5th company.

4747 is his regimental number

Joined the corps 12/7/15

Commissioned to the Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment 14/10/15

Served in France and Flanders

Attained the rank of captain

Died of Wounds 20/10/17

Jess

Rapid promotion cos everyone else was dead - my grandfather was the same, was promoted three times between 1916-1918, because everyone above him died.
