Can anyone read the places of address on this marriage cert please.

The first one is Nottm (something)

The second one I think is Carter Gate?

Nottm Park and Carter Gate?

What date is the cert? (1856??) Maybe you could try the census index on FMP to see what addresses are available in Notts?

1854 Merry

The person who sent it to me thinks it could be Nottm Castle

I agree with Merry. No way it's Nottm. Castle.

Carter Gate is on the FMP address index, but for Nottingham something I only get Road, which it isn't. I can see there might be the bottom of the C showing faintly, but I can't really make the rest of the word castle. The writing isn't very difficult, so I'm at a loss.

Is there a castle in Nottingham?

Could it possibly be Pasture do you think?

Yes Merry there is a castle but I don't think it says that.

I thought it doubtful

Yes Merry. Ever heard of The Sheriff of Nottingham and Robin Hood?

Certainly looks a bit like that Chrissie.

There appears to be a Pastures Close these days.

There used to be The Pastures apparently and there is a Pasture Road now.

Hmm...I thought they lived in hollowed out trees :o (I guess that was only Robin?)

I've tried the 1851 ad 1871 addresses, but am not getting anything that helps.

says Nottingham is divided into seven wards (graphic attached) including Castle-ward, so maybe "Nott'm Castle" is referring to that?

Does it look like castle, though?

You haven't given us any names Margaret. Have you found them in 1851?

Merry

Chrissie, I think it's Joseph Sherratt who is the groom. This is him with his first wife in 1851 at 6 Melville Terrace Nottingham. It's 1861 where no one has yet been able to find him with second wife Eliza (there's another thread about him)

I went and looked it up in the PR's at Notts Archives and it is Nottm Park. If this means the Park Estate, it has always been home to the wealthy, so I would think he may have been a live-in servant? (occupation is Porter).

I also looked in the Notts FHS index to the 1861 census of Nottingham but no luck.
