I have never found John Campbell on any census.

He marries Sarah Huband in 1842 and they have one son in 1843.

1851....Sarah and little John are in Cornwall
1861....Sarah and little (bit bigger) John are in Devon (Sarah's home town)
1864..Sarah dies.

Sarah has always been "married" on the census. 1861 she is "wife of seaman cooper"

I just found a John Campbell "cooper crew" in 1861 on the Ganges in foreign lands or colonies........I think I found him....ages fit. Now I just have to wait for Sarah and John's marriage cert to see if John was born in Scotland.....lol

Did you see you can work out where the Ganges was on census night?!

Latitude 34.50N
Longitude 35.47W

She was an 84 gun vessel

The 1842 marriage cert isn't going to tell you where he was born!

Somewhere near Beirut by the look of it. Was there a war on there at the time?

The marriage cert won't say where he was born, but it should give his age and his father's name and occupation, so then you will be able to see if you can find a birth / baptism for a John matching those details, and maybe there will be one in Glasgow.

I forgot you lot don't tell you much on the certs. Now why couldn't they have come to Aus to marry. I'd have his place of birth and mother's maiden name.....lol

I've just taken a stab at that entry being him from the info his wife gives on two census entries. I'd like to kill him off so the whole little family are gone.

Sarah Tracey Huband was my gg grandfather's sister and nobody in the world seems to be searching for her, probably because she only had one child and he died.
I want to put the whole story in my tree as a sort of monument to her.

Call me nutty............lol
