This post is aimed at kiterunner ;-)
......and anyone else who can help.

I have recently been researching my wife's GGF, Walter Horner Brown and his family, including his business activities.

I am looking for the family link between WHB and his Niece Alice Ramsden, born abt 1855, Holloway, daughter of Reynolds Ramsden. Our family legend is that Alice Ramsden "looked after" my wife's grandmother (Zelie Murlis Ricks) after she was orphaned in 1911. WHB, Alice and Zelie were all living at WHB's house at 88 Adelaide Rd Hampstead at the time of the 1911 census. I have found that WHB and Reynolds Ramsden dissolved their business partnership at the end of 1866 but have not yet linked the ramsden and Brown families

Any assistance or clues greatly appreciated!

If Alice was WHB 's neice, then she has to be the child of his bro or sister, doesnt she? Or is that too straightforward?

Yes of course, but it's the name of that brother or sister I'm looking for!

Probable marriage of Elizabeth Brown and Reynolds Ramsden on FreeBMD:

ARTER Elizabeth Stepney 2 563
BERRESFORD William Stepney 2 563
>> Brown Elizabeth Catherine Stepney 2 563
Fleetwood Charles Stepney 2 563
Fullagar Mary Stepney 2 563
Pettyt Sophia Jane Stepney 2 563
>> Ramsden Reynolds Stepney 2 563
Rugg Henry Stepney 2 563

The marriage cert's in the LMA database on Ancestry:

http://search.ancestry.co.uk/iexec?htx=View&r=5538&dbid=1623&iid=31280_196318-00033&fn=Elizabeth+Catherine&ln=Brown&st=d&ssrc=&pid=5348540

Elizabeth's father's name's given as Harry Ramsden, gentleman, and Reynolds' father as Joseph Brown, deceased, so presumably the fathers' names were accidentally inverted on the marriage cert. Not sure about Joseph's occupation - something butcher, I think.

This is presumably the baptism of your Walter Horner Brown, who was 74 in 1911:

WALTER HORNER BROWN
Female

Event(s):
Birth:
Christening: 24 MAR 1837 St Botolph Without Aldgate, London, London, England

Parents:
Father: JOSEPH BROWN
Mother: JANE

The "female" is presumably a mistranscription.

The baptisms of Walter Horner Brown and Elizabeth Catherine Brown are also on Ancestry, parents Joseph (butcher) and Jane, baptisms at St. Botolph's, so it looks as though they were brother and sister.

The address given in Walter's baptism entry is 11 Montague Terrace, Mile End Road, the same address that Catherine gave on her marriage cert.

In 1861 Reynolds Ramsden is with a wife Sarah A. and children, including Alice.

This looks like his first wife Elizabeth's death:

Deaths Sep 1856
RAMSDEN Elizabeth Catherine Islington 1b 137

and matching burial, aged 32:

Just to say you can all stop because I have loads and loads and loads of stuff about this whole family as Walter Horner Brown was my 2xg-grandfather!

Great to make your acquaintance, Rocketmank, I shall send you a PM (no doubt the first of many!)

But just to say it isn't a mistranscription; it does actually say "daughter" on the baptism entry! I think I mentioned it fairly recently on the General board!
