Maggie, have you seen the Earls Colne project website?
http://linux02.lib.cam.ac.uk/earlscolne/

They've indexed every person mentioned in any doc relating to Earls Colne since the year dot, including parish records. Some of my OH's family are from there and I managed to find quite a bit about them.

Edited to add - h'mm, I've checked and can't see any Lewseys listed at all. How sure are you he was born in Earls Colne?

Going to have have a good look tomorrow I found a few names that are also connected to another part of the Lewsey family OH's family has two strands of this family running through two sides of his family.

Yes, it's brilliant, isn't it?

Lewsey is a name that's just asking to be mis-spelt! I see they provide a list of alternatives :)

I believe his mother was Susanna Sadler

Although they haven't quite got the Lewsey name but I expect its them.

I have to thank you immensley for this site I didn't know it existed the amount of stuff on there is unbelievable.

I have found other stuff for some other families I have in OH's tree - offshoots but still re-inforces some information I have for all sorts of people.

I've spent the last few days looking at it. Its a shame they don't have a search function but hey the amount of work that has gone into it is impressive.

That baptism I found confirmed some information on some public trees I have seen on Ancestry trouble is most of them don't cite their sources and they all seem to go in circles back to another tree so I am loathe to accept the information until I find any evidence. Although I have now a bigger picture of Jonathan's father Jonathan who seems to have married again after Susan died and had a few more children and the trees on ancestry are either with one wife or the other for some reason... its like it depends who they are descended from matters on who they put on their tree personally I like everyone, the whole family, second and subsequent wives, half siblings the whole caboodle.

I just wish they would cite some source or other on Ancestry trees I always do mine isn't public but at least the 12 people with access can see where I got the info from. Really irritates me.

You're right, if you don't know where the information's come from you really can't trust it.

I just wish my OH's family had stayed in Earls Colne for more than a couple of generations!
