George was born approx. 1857/8:
*as per the marriage register aged 22 on 28.02.1879 to Mary Ferguson Miller his parents are John Cummings and Catherine, maiden name Dudgeon - both deceased.
* as per the death register aged 47 on 03.06.1905 his parents are John Dudgeon Cummings and Catherine, maiden name Davis - still deceased.

I have searched for the marriage of his parents as well as his birth using all above combinations with no success. Even on the Census search via SP, I can only trace him in 1891 and 1901 with Mary and children (cannot trace him and mary in 1881) but no trace of him with above parents before his marriage.

Anyone have suggestions on a way to do an alternate search or where else apart from UK records to search?

Where do the 1891 and 1901 censuses say he was born, Wendy?

In 1881 George and Mary have a daughter Mary age 10 born Edinburgh, according to ancestry's transcription. Have you found her birth registration to get the date and the address? Census night was 3/4 April 1881 so if she was born near to that date it might help.

That looks like them, especially since son John was born in Falkirk (according to ancestry). I wonder whether the actual image says England for George.

Wendy, Can you view that census I put in post #5?
George was a tailor on there. It would be useful to know if you have that occupation for him on other censuses?
If you can view it as Kite says above, -Does it say a place in England for Georges birth?
On Ancestry we cannot see the image and neither of us have Scotland's People.

Your original post~1 - I think the maiden name for his mother on the marriage cert must be wrong, it's Dudgeon (Same name as husband's middle name) but Davis on the death cert. :)

:oI just rechecked my SP search that had mary as 2nd person with age ranged 22-30 - would obviously be out then BUT
Mary aged 19-25 did not give anything close to Edinburgh only 1 married to a John in Stirlingshire:confused:

George was a "tailor" in the 1891 census

Just did a new search on SP for George Cummings 1881 Census age 18-30 (being safe) and nothing comes up in Edinburgh - 1 "Cumming" for Stirling but aged 19.

Would tie in as I just found John aged 2 above's birth, he may have died between 1881 and 1891, will check it out when I can afford more credits, but still cannot trace family via SP in 1881 unless you count "Cumming" surname, which lists John as 2 second person George, District: ST GEORGE, City/County: EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN, GROS Data Reference: 685/01 121/00 013

They appear to be listed as Cunnings on SP (in the 1881 census).

Thanks, found them now, does state is birthplace as England. Will keep searching then to see if I can find his birth and possible marriage of his parents, which, so far, has been unsuccesful.
