Another question / comment about Warwickshire PR's on Ancestry

Not really an Ancestry mis-transcription but I think the vicar had been at the communion wine.

Start here:

Left hand side when it gets to January, the vicar has noted very faintly 1820 in the margin but not altered it at the top of the next page so it looks like 1819 has 24 months. If you keep looking at each image it gets worse with some years having 36 months.

Is William Smith 1819 or 1820, is Hannah Smith 1820 or 1821 and so on.

I think there were two priests - John Short and R Lillington, who each had their own separate list for the same year, and then each list was copied into the register, all of R Lillington's for the whole year first, and then all of J Short's. It is the same for 1818 (and other years). Then someone was confused and thought it should go on to the next year each January and wrote the next year in the margin and then realised they were wrong and crossed it out again.

Looking at stuff on the internet about Hampton in Arden, it looks as though there were various chapels including one at Balsall which had a chaplain, so I suspect that J Short was the chaplain there and R Lillington the vicar of Hampton itself.

Just found William Smith's burial in 1819 aged 2 weeks.
