Would a smallpox victim have been buried in the local Churchyard?

I have found a 4 year old child, daughter of my great aunt, died of smallpox in 1871 and the parish record is for the local Church where the family lived. Apart from the word smallpox written under the childs name and several others on the page, there's no indication she wasn't laid to rest in the Churchyard.
I thought all smallpox victims were buried away from the main burial grounds.

I think she may have been buried in the churchyard but away from the main burials - and probably quicklime was used, sorry.

Thanks OC. I have a copy of her death certificate and found her burial record last week when I was in Northumberland. I noticed she was buried the same day she died.

Why would you be sorry about quicklime?

Because I find it quite an unpleasant thought and especially when used on a child. I know it makes no difference because the child is dead, but still....
