I thought we didn't get copies of signatures on certificates but I've just received two today with them - was I mistaken then? These are death certs from '72 and '73

Are they from the GRO or the local register office, Asa?

from the GRO and both deaths

By the way, I'm assuming you mean 1972 and 1973 but thought I'd better check if that's right?

Yes I am sorry:-)

All the death certs I have from that era are typed.

Me too, Marg but these are both photocopied with my Dad's and uncle's signatures. I'm quite pleased really but I thought this was safeguarded.

I wonder whether the local register offices used photocopiers at that time?

None of the certificates I have received from the GRO from this time period have signatures on them.

They are either typed, as Marg says, or are a handwritten copy by the registrar where they write the signature.

I didn't know it was a safeguard - I thought it was just that the GRO were just sent copied-out versions for their files because it was easier than getting people to sign everything multiple times.

I had it in my head that it was a security thing but I must have imagined it. They're from the same county but different ROs so I must just be lucky:-)

I've had some hand-written ones too, Tom.
