Ruth Ann Vout was born Jun qtr 1884

In 1891 she is in Hindolvestone, Norfolk as ANNIE, aged 6, with father George a gamekeeper born Briston aged 40, mother Harriet and 5 siblings.

In 1901 she is in the same village, aged 17, with widowed father George aged 47 and three younger siblings. Again she is called Annie.

Rumour is that she commited suicide, possibly in Norwich, but nobody knows when!

Can anybody find her in 1911, spot a suitable marriage and/or death?

Her great niece has been looking for her for over a decade without the least success.

There is an A V age 27 in an institution in Blofield district on the 1911 census, but the transcription says Male. Might be worth checking the image though?

I've been looking at deaths for Ruth A's born 1883-7 in Norfolk and there aren't many (if she died there) but I can't find a matching marriage - how likely is it that she cohabited?

There's an Annie P Vout death Oct-Dec 1962 Wayland district, age 78.

Found it, it's listed as V A

Everyone on that page is male.

This is what I was looking at. There's no fitting births in that name or women who married Vout men who look like they could have ever been called Annie P.

I don't know why - I just searched for first name A, surname V, birth year 1884 +-3 years, and up it came. I'm not sure what to suggest except make sure you haven't got something left over in one of the search boxes from a previous search; that sometimes happens to me.

Edit - ah, I see you've found it now.

My cousin, whose aunt this is, was born 1943, so I think Ruth must have died before 1950, and probably 1920s or earlier. I hadn't realised that Ruth was known as Annie, but that may simply have been to her parents.

Hmm there is a Ruth Vought in London as a servant. Details all wrong, but can't trace the Vought girl backwards

Ooh. That Ruth married Cecil Jeal, from Wonersh. Hmm

Asa, if a woman commits suicide, the odds are it's because she's been badly treated by someone, so I'd say it was quite likely she did cohabit. Trouble is, I really don't know whether as Ruth, Ann or Annie. And I'm beginning to wonder whether she lied about her age too.

We can rule out the Annie P Vout who died in 1962 because she was Annie Peeke-Vout, a widow.

She (your Ruth) was baptised Ruth Anna:

There is a tree on Ancestry which says this is her emigrating to Canada in Oct 1905:

Red herring. Just to eliminate this one in case somebody else stumbles across it:

James Farmer & Annie Vout marriage, Cobourg, Ontario area (https://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/farmer/1782/)

The marriage is here. She has the wrong parents:

James Farmer-Annie Vout (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9Q97-Y399-3DVJ?i=783&cc=1784216)

Annie Vout Female 23 1887

But that Annie Vout (the one who married James Farmer) was born in Ontario, so she is not the one on the passenger list.
