This is my main brickwall, which began in 2005/6 and I'd appreciate some thoughts about gt gt gran's parents and siblings.

Here's the story so far

Gt gt gran ~ Elizabeth Forrest ~ born in Douglas, Lanarkshire in 1830.
Died 1910 ~ Wandsworth, London (aged 80).

1850 ~ Married William Looker (born in Middx. England) at Wishaw House, Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire.
No official record has come to light but the 'when and where' is on 2 of their children's birth certs.

Children (all born in Scotland)
Margaret Stewart
James
Jessie
Jane
William Henry
Elizabeth
Rebecca
Graham
Alfred
Graham

1869 ~ Margaret emigrated to NZ.
My 3rd cousin in NZ has all the info about her life and we have the rest of the family on censuses 1851 onwards.

1870s ~ Elizabeth, William and the offspring moved to England.

1841 census on Ancestry has this family in Cambusnethan

http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1841Scotland&indiv=try&h=2694499

and 1851  this might be part of the same family

http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1851Scotland&indiv=try&h=78265

Over the years I have contacted people on GR who might have Elizabeth's parents/siblings, without success.

As the marriage was pre 1855 then it'll be an OPR.

However OPR's are predominently Church of Scotland records and now some Catholic records have been added to Scotlandspeople. So if it wasn't a Cof S or the records are incomplete or damage then you may not find it.

If it stated where the marriage took place and the date you could possibly check with the local records office if they have the records concerned. May do the lookup for you too.

OH's grandparents marriage wasn't on scotlandspeople yet when I contacted the GRO it was found as I had date and place.

Ah thank you Julie
I did contact the NAS a few years ago but they were unable to find anything useful.

Might be worth another go at it.

It's difficult as there are so many Forrests up there. I don't think that 1851 household is likely to be the same family because of the discrepancies in age and occupation - assuming that ancestry's transcriptions are accurate. Have you checked the images on SP?

This could be John jr in 1851 (again, ancestry's transcription):
Ancestry 1851 (http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&rank=0&f4=John&f6=For*st&sx=&f1=&f2=&f22=&f10=&f11=&f16=&f20=&rg_81004011__date=1826&rs_81004011__date=5&f13__ftp=&f8=&_8000C002=&_80008002=&_80018002=&f7=&gskw=&prox=1&db=1851scotland&ti=5538&ti.si=0&gss=angs-d&pcat=35&fh=15&h=2667801&recoff=&fsk=CIAABDQADFwy&bsk=&pgoff=)

I've not looked at any images recently but I think I covered all the 'possibles' on SP and found nothing that tied in.

I'm sort of clutching at straws and just wanting a family in Douglas to appear as if by magic.

The surname Forrest is almost as bad as Smith
1841 there are only 3 Forrest families in Douglas, which doesn't help either

is it possible that they lived in the coach house which was part of Lord Blehaven's Wishaw house estate. The coach house still stands and is a listed building although Wishaw House itself is long gone.

Hi Shaz
You did look for them before on FTF ... a few years ago

Yes William worked for Lord Belhaven and they moved around quite a lot.
Lanark, Renfrew and Perth.

A couple of the children were born Wishaw Stables another in a Gatehouse.
Their first child was, supposedly, born at Murthly Castle but that's one of the births I don't have.

I'm googling for the coach house but can not see any images so far.
Will try Francis Frith pics.

Hmmm no luck
