There's a John Nutter baptised 20 Apr 1788 at St Peter, Burnley, son of Ellis and Sally, abode Hurstwood. Which is pretty close to Briercliffe. I don't suppose your John had a son called Ellis, by any chance?

Perhaps you're already familiar with these Nutters I found on briercliffesociety.co.uk, Jill? I wonder if they are somebody else's family or yours?

This will be much too late for the John Nutter you're looking for now, though I can't say just what date this photo would be; I don't see any date given for it. It says he has a daughter who married an Albert Ellis. Lots of Ellises around the neighborhood, maybe.

Thanks for taking an interest Janet, I'm a member of that forum too and Annie who is a member there has been a great help to me, and I've sent her various bits and pieces.

I thought you might already have all that, in fact you might be where I found it myself awhile ago. That area turned up on my radar when I found out that my greatgrandmother had died in Burnley.
