She is my 2x great-grandmother and I have so far not been able to find a baptism for her.
Just to say I don't have an Ancestry subscription, just FMP.
Born 14 Oct Baptised at Sowerby Bridge, Christ Church on 21 Dec 1817 the dau of John Stillings and Elis Stillings. Address Skircoat, occ corn miller.
I think "Elis" is probably Elizabeth shortened to Elis rather than Eliz.
There are two siblings:
Sarah Ann Stillings b 17 Jan Sowerby Bridge, Christ Church bap 25 Apr 1819 John Stillings, Elis Stillings
John Stillings b 24 Dec 1820 Sowerby Bridge, Christ Church bap 25 Feb 1821 John Stillings, Elizabeth Stillings

Thanks, Merry! That's fantastic. This baptism has never made it onto any site before.
Is there also a baptism for her sister Eliza, c. 1826?

I already had the baptisms for Sarah Ann and John, but not their dates of birth, so extra information there too. :)
Not found Eliza yet....there's this one:
Jane Stillings b 16 Oct Sowerby Bridge, Christ Church bap 22 Feb 1829 John Stillings, Elizabeth Stillings
This one has the address as Worley. The other three were all Skircoat.

That's great, Merry. I had Jane, but again not the dob, just the baptism.
Stillings isn't a common name. There were about 3 families there, all siblings.
Other siblings:
Elizabeth
Eliza
George Henry
Ellen
Susannah
Emma Jane (up to 1846)
I have all the baptisms except for Eliza now.
Back to Skircoat again:
Ellen Stillings b 3 Jun 1832 Sowerby Bridge, Christ Church bap 9 Oct 1836 John Stillings, Elizth Stillings
Susannah Stillingsb 4 Aug Sowerby Bridge, Christ Church bap 9 Oct 1836 John Stillings, Elizth Stillings
John is now just a miller!
I can't find Eliza. Tried various things.....

Thanks for looking, Merry. Apart from her, there is a gap between 1822 and 1828!
Do you have a date/place for George Henry's baptism? I was thinking if I could find that one on Ancestry it might lead to Eliza's!

Rather odd, because George Henry Stillings was baptised on 21 November 1835 at the Wesleyan Chapel, Bolton Brow! DOB 4 Jan 1835.

So was Elizabeth!

Oh, so maybe Eliza was baptised somewhere other than C of E too?

I always thought that I couldn't find Sophia's christening because it might have been in a non-conformist church or chapel.
I wonder why Ellen wasn't baptised with George Henry.

I don't like it when that happens!

I think that the first son John might have died because he didn't make it to a census.
George Henry was obviously important in the family pecking order, amongst all those girls, and Ellen only was baptised when Susannah came along!
I also wonder whether Emma Jane, baptised on 05 Jul 1846 at Sowerby Bridge, was on of the older girls' daughter!

lol How old was Elizabeth?

Enjoy your shopping, Merry.
Just got in and have missed a recorded delivery letter. Drat. I don't have a car for the 10 mile round trip to go and get it! lol I'd laugh if it's to do with my car (or lack of one!)
I suppose some women did have babies at 50, but I would expect she to have had more in between in that had been the case. Hmmmm.....

How frustrating, Merry. I moan when that happens and I only have to go one mile. :)
My Sophia married in 1843 so it couldn't have been her baby, at least!

Apart for this, I can't find any record of her. She isn't on any censuses with them but I can't find a death either!

lol OH took me to get it. Turns out it was only a letter from the guilty driver's insurance company confirming what they told me on the phone on Monday! I have no idea why they sent it recorded?

What a nuisance they sent it by recorded delivery.
Having looked through this thread I don't think I looked at the Emma Jane bap as it was later than my date range. I just looked at it now and I think they are different parents. The quality of the scan is rubbish, so I can't be 100% on the surname, but the father is definitely a wood turner.
I looked for a birth reg of Emma Jane in Halifax district (Sowerby Bridge), but couldn't see anything.
Maybe it is the right family and giving the wrong occ was part of the cover-up?

Thanks, Merry.
If we go back up to Halifax we will have to look at the PRs again.
I wondered if it was a child with an earlier dob but not baptised until 1846.

I wonder if John born 1820 did survive and marriage a girl called Elizabeth and this was their child?

I'll have to investigate further. Not Elizabeth, though.
It must be a marriage licence, I would have thought, held at the Borthwick Institute.
