I'm looking for a family in the 1911, but don't have a sub at the mo! I can't work out if it's possible to see the images on Ancestry. I've found the family in the summary book as Chas J Roake, 92 Priory road. Tonbridge. on FMP he is listed as Charles James Roake b 1866 Living in Tonbridge Kent. Can I tweak Ancestry to see more detail?

Advice needed please.........

Perhaps someone who can work all this out just tell me the relationship of

Alice Margery Roake b 1902 living in Portsmouth,

to the others in the household. Are there any blood relatives? Parents-which I doubt or Grandparents?

No idea - I thought you knew when you said the other one = Portsmouth!

I know Kate knows! :D

Oh, you meant yours is in Portsmouth and the Tonbridge one isn't yours! lol

Granddaughter of Hannah Roake aged 71

You can use the original 1911 census search facility to tell you the other people:

http://www.1911census.co.uk/?ukwid=263032&sourceid=36&utm_source=Google+1911_CPC&utm_medium=General+1&utm_campaign=1911+Census+1

Put her name in the Other Member of the Household boxes.

Oh, you meant yours is in Portsmouth and the Tonbridge one isn't yours! lol

Exactly, I'm sure there is a link between the 2 families though as Alice Margery was born in Tonbridge, married in Portsmouth.

I'm having a look at this lady for a friend, no one has ever known who her Mother was, and I'm trying to have a hunt without the birth cert! always the cheapskate!

I thought that was the most likely, she was apparently brought up by an Aunt and uncle!

Thanks for that Merry

It takes a bit of figuring out to get from that 1911 reference to the actual image on ancestry, sorry, I'll have a go tomorrow.

Ah, I see you had the summary book entry, Sue. Normally it is easiest to get the county, district, etc from that and then double the household schedule number to get (approximately) to the image that you want on the actual census, but I can't get the summary book entry to load at the moment so working from the info you have posted and that reference from the 1911 site, what you do is go onto the 1911 census on ancestry and choose
Kent - Tonbridge - enumeration district 09 - image number 186.

(I know it's enumeration district 9 from the ED9 bit of that reference, and that the schedule number is 93 from the sn93 bit. Just double 93 to get 186.)

Clear as mud?

Bother, now reading down the thread I see I have given you instructions of how to "tweak ancestry" to get to an image you didn't want to view!

Oooh, so I did know what to do, but when I looked at image 186 and it was the wrong one (at that point I didn't know I shouldn't be looking at the Tonbridge entry) I should have tried looing a couple of pages each side, but wasn't confident enough to bother!! lol

Thanks for that help in using the indexes. I've been playing all evening. Not found what I was looking for though!
