New FREE site http://www.marriage-locator.co.uk/

You need to have the GRO reference for the marriage. Put it in the search box and it will tell you where the marriage took place. Works because all the marriages in a church are grouped together in the index volume & pages.

It worked for some of the ones I tested and in ones where it couldn't provide a location it gave the churches included in the registration district.

That's really interesting, Nell - we used to use a system at the LMA for locating parish of marriage, using the page number on FreeBMD versus the last marriage in a quarter in each church - saved no end of time and of course the highest numbers in each quarter were ROs.

I've just tested it for one I never found at the LMA for 1897 Hackney and it tells me "Sorry, we cannot locate the church for this marriage. The entry is located between entries for Hackney (RD: Hackney) and Bloomsbury St George (RD: St Giles)." So, it must be a non deposited, Non Con or RO.

Anyway, this will help a lot - thanks:-)
