Hi Folks, Im trying to find out some info about my wife's g/g/grandmother.
Amelia Ayres born around 1860 in Fairford, Gloucestershire married to John Sutton Ayres, born 1847 Brinkworth, Wiltshire. Anything you can find out would be great.

Amelia Harrison

She must have died before 1889.

ElizabethHerts

This could be Amelia Harrison in 1871. NO - NOT HER

If so, she was born in Pangbourne, Berkshire.

1871 Census
HARRISON, Amelia E
MARLBOROUGH, Wiltshire
RG10 piece 1905 folio 73 page 45

Her father was Thomas and her mother was Mary.

Mm, I'm not sure about this. I seem to have found someone with this name as the wife of Alfred E Perkins on the 1881 census.

If you're trying to find out about Amelia's family, you would need to order a copy of her marriage certificate to find out her father's name.

Gloucestershire BMD confirms that John Sutton Ayres married Amelia Harrison, at St Mary the Virgin, Fairford.

Amelia was born in Fairford, according to the 1881 census.

The transcription is odd because the original census form has been very casually completed.

I still think it would be best to get Amelia's marriage certificate to check her father's name before trying to trace her back.

1861 possibly

As Kiterunner says, buy the marriage cert. first.

So this marriage is strange!! Was it "our" John after all??

ElizabethHerts

It looks as though it could be "our" John's father who was marrying!

Ive found Richard Ayres born 1817 in Dauntsey in wiltshire died 1863. Anybody help find his Parents?

kiterunner
17-08-11, 12:43
FamilySearch has a Richard Ayres baptised at Dauntsey 9 Mar 1817, mother Mary Ayres. It might not be possible to find out who his father was.

kiterunner
17-08-11, 12:44
And if he's the one who married Jane Potter in 1840, FamilySearch doesn't give his father's name on the marriage, though you would have to get a copy of the marriage cert to confirm there is no father's name on it.

Ooooh, but luckily, A2A has an entry for:

Bastardy Case A1/125/52/H 1817

These documents are held at Wiltshire and Swindon Archives

Contents:
Name: Ayres Mary Dauntsey
Sex of Child: Not Recorded
Father's Name: Richard Smith
See also same sessions for 2 children charable to Lyneham

But whether we can find the right Richard Smith I don't know. I think you would need to get a copy of the bastardy document and see what details it gives about him (and about Mary).
