Marriage witnesses

I'm looking at the parish register for my 2g grandparents and one of the witnesses has the same name as my 2g grandma's younger sister. The sister would have been 16 years of age.

So I have a question -- is there a minimum age limit to being a witness?

Nope. It would be entirely likely that a little sister would be a witness.

No. A witness needs to be old enough to understand what they are witnessing, that's all.

It's also likely she was a bridesmaid. I was witness and bridesmaid at my cousin's wedding.
