Name - "official" name and what they were known as – Joseph Spiller Seldon (Joe)

Date and place of birth – 29 July 1886, Broadclyst, Devon

Names of parents – William & Emma (nee Spiller) Seldon

Details of each of his or her marriages – to Ellen Rose Gibbs on 15 April 1911, St Lukes Church, West Norwood, London. Joint wedding with Ellen’s brother Harry Gibbs to Edith Alice Sleat.

Occupation(s) – Ag Lab (1901), Labourer (on attestation papers 1902),Tyre fitter (on 1911 marriage),

Military service – joined Devonshire Regiment in 1902 for a term of 12 years, giving his age as 18 years but he was only 16. Served in England until January 1909, then Malta until December 1909, England again until August 1914 when he was mobilised at Exeter, and posted to France then discharged on completion of his engagement 25 August 1915. Reenlisted and posted back to France. Awarded Military Medal.

Sometime between April 1911 & June 1912 moved to 257 Mayall Road, Herne Hill, London

Date, place and cause of death – 24 April 1918, Somme, France of gunshot wounds.

Date and place of burial – Adelaide Cemetery, Villers-Bretonneux, Somme, France

Details of will / administration of their estate – everything to his wife.
