Two little girls were given this name. The birth of one was registered in March 1885, the other in March 1887. Both in Newcastle. Both died as babies.

no other children in that neck of the woods have Skillings as a middle name.

No Skillings in England are called Georgina.

There are no Poole/Skillings marriages in England.

There is a George Skillings in Tynemouth, but he marries Joanna Kennedy in 1881 (two illegitimate baby daughters named after him seems unlikely)

Does anyone have any bright ideas as to why the girls should have been given this name? There are Georgina Pooles around, but of course, none I can find in Northumberland!

Luckily, FamilySearch has their baptisms - 17 Dec 1884 and 19 Jan 1887 St Anne's, Newcastle, parents Edward and Jessie, so we have something to work from. Middle name of the first one is transcribed as Skellings on there.

Their marriage could be Edward Poole / Jessie Miller 1 Apr 1872 at All Saints, Newcastle, his age 33, hers 22, his father William Poole, hers William Miller (FamilySearch again).

I must have second sight. Looking at all the possible women, I had jotted down Jessie as a possibility.

I wonder why....

(Not to mention why I didn't look at family search:o)

Thanks, Kite!

I bet it's a Scottish Skillings, then and nothing to do with my Norfolk ones. Whew!
