FreeBMD/Ancestry Q

Nothing to add to BK6 from this thread

I understood the Ancestry database which calls itself "England & Wales, FreeBMD Birth Index, 1837-1915" is a direct copy of the records available on FreeBMD.

Can anyone explain why I can find this on FreeBMD (try not to notice the surname, please), but not on Ancestry?

and this one appears on FreeBMD as 1903 (correct), but on Ancestry as 1915(same page number etc):

Births Dec 1903
BILLYARD Gladys Rotherham 9c 743

If anyone can throw any light on this I would be very grateful. I am starting to find it difficult to trust the records on this Ancestry database.

The Ancestry copy lags behind FreeBMD, so the Dowsett entry has probably been added to FreeBMD since ancestry last updated their copy. Not sure why ancestry has the year wrong on the Billyard entry - I suppose it's possible it was wrong on FreeBMD and has now been corrected, but it's very unusual for the year to be wrong on FreeBMD.
