It says

This collection covers records from the Diocese of Manchester held by the Manchester Archives and Local Studies. The parishes are mainly from the historic county of Lancashire, with a few parishes from Cheshire and Yorkshire.

I don't know exactly which parishes are included yet but worth a look if you have ancestors from that area.

I can't find a baptism from OH's tree at Manchester Cathedral in 1850 on there (William Cottrell, 27 Oct 1850) so I had a look at the information about the database but I don't really understand it:

The Diocese of Manchester was formed in 1847 from the Diocese of Chester. It is useful to explore Cheshire Parishes Lancashire Parishes and to use England Jurisdictions 1851 to locate the pre 1851 ecclesiastical jurisdictions.

The historical reasons for the Ancient Parish of Manchester lack of local parish due to the Collegiate Church Manchester Our Lady, St George and St Denys, Lancashire practice are explained in that wiki page. The subsequent Manchester Diocesan building program has been followed to create parish pages. Town and City parish creations post 1851 are being added to the FamilySearch wiki, but the number of Non-Conformist churches and chapels is large.

There have been administrative changes to the historic county boundaries of Lancashire, Cheshire and Yorkshire in several civil parish and local authority creations and reorganizations. The collection is offered as an initial phase of publication of further collections (including index collections) for the Diocese of Manchester and other Mancunian records.

I see, you can also browse the images, so most likely they aren't all indexed yet. I still can't find Manchester Cathedral though!

I went on there hoping to find my Porritt family - what it did come up with (only hit) was the marriage of my great-great-grandfather Charles Alexander to Mary Porritt, with the image!

Julie, I have all the certs! He married 4 times, Mary Porritt was his 2nd wife and my 2xgt granmother. I was hoping to find more about her father and her family.

Did you read Samuel's occupation as mill wright? What is that?

Hi Julie, this is a definition of a millwright. He was also called an engineer at one stage.

I have also found the baptisms of the children of Samuel Alexander, this Samuel's grandson, and the brother of my great-grandfather. There were two additional children, Winifred and Ethel, who I hadn't got as they both died shortly after birth.
