On the 1901 census Carl is 53, which should help in looking for his death.

What does it say for Mary Ellen's marital status on the 1911 census? The 1911 site says there are no other Sachts with her.

Mary Ellen is on the National Probate Calendar as a widow and her date of death was 15 Feb 1927.

Thanks Elizabeth...I was researching their second daughter ..Adelaide Elizabeth Sacht b 1880 , when I realised they may have seen out their Golden Anniversary...
Adelaide Sacht married John Wesley Boyle in sep qtr 1900...they had
Sophia W b 1912
John b 1915....I really need to see if they had any children between 1900 and 1911 to see if their other children are on the 1911 census in (probably Garston ),Liverpool
I feel there would have been other children in this period

Sorry girls...you type so fast...and I type so slow...thanks for the info...that 1911 census is great for me ...my gg grandmother / g grandfather and g grandmother and my grandad....all in the same house ...brilliant and my "aunty Ruth and Aunty Olive and Uncle Billy " (great Aunts really ....I loved them cos they spoilt me rotten ).....lol....so , I know Carl Freidrich Sacht was a mariner ...I wonder if he died at sea...although born in Heligoland, he was a British subject cos Heligoland was British owned when he was born...thank you all...that was very interesting to see them all together...did it give an address ?

Brilliant Kate...that`s our church...and looks like Carl Frederick is named after his grandad...delighted with this....a lady who is the g g grandaughter of Adelaide Elizabeth Sacht says she thinks there was a Joseph ??
that`s who I originally was looking for ...so obviously we have the same 3 x g grandparents...but Sophia Sacht who married the William Edward Oakes b 1877 is MY direct ancestor...so I hadn`t really done much research on her sister Adelaide...but I have today...she should be very happy with the results...I have definitely found 3 children ...well 2 ...you found the other ..lol...thanks again...allan:)

I suspect that Carl Sacht died at sea between 1901 and 1911 although his name doesn't seem to be on the "deaths at sea" index. But if he was on a non-British-registered vessel I don't think his death had to be registered in Britain.

Thanks Kate...I have tried in the past, but I never found his death...I wonder if Adelaide named her first born Carl Frederick after her dad because he had just recently died ?...maybe between the 1901 census and Sep 1901...or is that clutching at straws ?...I can understand one name ...but both ..?...allan

It was pretty common to name a child after one's father in those days, whether he was alive or dead.

I agree with Kate, but for once your straw clutching may actually be right. This is from The Times, Friday, Aug 09, 1901:

Merry...you amaze me..thank you very much...Sacht is a very rare name...Heligoland based .. probably a variation of the more common German spelt Schacht....so I am pretty sure that will be Carl ....how sad ...thanks again....allan

Allan/Kate,

I may have a lead on the above Carl's death, would there be anyway of finding out what their street address was either at his time of birth or the 1911 census?

Thanks, but it appears that the address in the Church's inscribed book refers to a Gledville Street Garston (this was 1917) was hoping perhaps to tie them up ot maybe the family moved. There is apparently a Gladeville Road in Mossley Hill, which was in the old Garston township before its icorporation into the city - as per the info I was given. Never know could still be on the right track, should hopefully be getting some photo's soon so it may trigger something in my memory/records.

Allan, still trying to trace John Wesley Adelaide husband between 1901 and 1911- as soon as I have something concrete will let you know.
