This is our new challenge, replacing TO3G, and focussing on grandparents.

Of course, most people will already have all the basic info about their grandparents, and if so then you may or may not wish to post it up, but some people do have blanks to fill in or brick walls which they would like help with. We're expecting that the number of threads which need blanks filling in will be relatively low, so we will still be allowing each person to post up 2 threads per week (one for your own grandparent and one for your partner's). If your grandparent is still alive, of course don't post up their details unless you have their permission. And bear in mind that this board is open to everybody to view, i.e. including non-members and search engines.

This week, we are focussing on your father's mother.

If you want to take part, just start a new thread on this board and put your grandmother's name in the Title. If you don't know her name then put whatever you like in the title! Copy the following form and fill in the answers that you already have, then over the course of the next week you try to fill in any blanks and everyone else helps you.

Can you fill in all of the following information about that person:

Name - "official" name and what they were known as
Date and place of birth
Names of parents
Details of each of his or her marriages - if any - and any divorces
Occupation(s) - if any
Military service - if any
Addresses where they lived - and please list which censuses you have or haven't found him/her on, if applicable.
Date, place and cause of death
Date and place of burial / cremation.
Details of will / administration of their estate - if applicable
Memorial inscription - if any

Adoptive or step-grandparents welcome! And partners' grandparents too.

If you're lucky enough to have all the information already, then you can still post it up if you want, so that search engines can pick it up.

Thanks for thinking of this idea Kate, it made me closely look at my grandmother's information. I looked at the Bryant family history book compiled probably 25 years ago and saw where Nan and Pop were supposedly married in Perth. I thought that's not right - I got out a copy of their marriage certificate and there it was she had married in Coolgardie WA. Then the family book had marriage in 1900, according to the certificate 1902. Then I looked further at the book and it had she was born in Drake NSW and I thought no she didn't she was born in Ballarat Vic... so now it makes you wonder about the rest of the family book.. The best conundrum though relates to the certificate itself - it is double sided on the front it has 17 December 1902, but turn over the back where they signed and it is dated in two places 16th December -this is the original written in ink not typed .. Fortunately I do know the day of the month, it is the 17th - how do I know that, because fortunately my parents where married on the same day and month as his parents 17th December. Cheers Julie
