Francis Killerby married Mara?? Lee on 28 May. Could someone please work out the name? I'm off to bed soon so please don't think I'm rude if I don't reply immediately.

While I'm at it does Jno mean John or Jonathan or can it mean both?

Either way what does it say for John Lee s of John Lee on 9 December baptism?

The surname is Lee

The first name is Mar then an abbreviation of some sort

It says Francis Killerby and Mar (something)Lee of Bradford

Not sure on the 2nd one Toni.

I think Jno means John

Thanks Marg.

The abbreviation looks like an 'a' to me but I've not heard of Mara as a name especially at the time.

It means that some letters have been missed out between Mar and a, but unfortunately it could be short for Maria or Martha. I guess you could look for baptisms of children to the other couples where the wife's name is written like that and see whether they turn out to be Marias or Marthas?

Jno means John.

John s(on) of John Lee Clo(thie)r d(=of) Eccleshill.

Not certain it is short for Clothier - if you can think of another occupation beginning with Clo and ending with r, it could be that! (Clogger?!)

I would guess it's Maria, because Martha is written in full elsewhere on the page.

Thanks Kate for the translation and info regarding John.

I have no idea of Clo r besides what you said. I've not heard of a clogger so that woul be a new one for me. lol

I'll agree with Mary that the name is Maria, if Martha is elsewhere on the page, and I like Maria better. :p For those going shock, horror I am willing to be found wrong and will change it to Martha, if need be.
