View Full Version : Ancestry's gone odd.

My Ancestry has been just plain stupid the last few days.

If I put a name in the search box, I only get Australian records even if i put England for the birth and death. The names coming up aren't even the name I put in.

If I tick the "exact" box I get nothing.

I know I've found the records before.......I even have the copies, but they just won't come up for me.

If anyone is bored, I'd like Simeon Ruby born 1787 Cornwall. He's in Devon pre 1841. I can't find him on any census on Ancestry but i have the images from ages ago.

He's on The Genealogist.....

I can find one born c. 1826, but not your chap yet.

1841 Census
RUBY, Simeon
EAST STONEHOUSE, Devonshire
HO107 piece 276 folio 16 page 27

Here he is:

1841 Census
RUBY, Simion
EAST STONEHOUSE, Devonshire
HO107 piece 276 folio 13 page 20

RUBY, Simion M 50 1791
RUBY, Mary F 50 1791
RUBY, Jane F 15 1826
RUBY, Thomas M 14 1827
RUBY, Emma F 12 1829
RUBY, Ellen F 8 1833 Devon

I should add I have FMP, not Ancestry.

Elizabeth...I've got him in 1841 and 1861 and his wife in 1851. He was a sailer so could have been away.

I just can't get him again on Ancestry....The search seems all very odd.

What are using for the search?

I've found him in 1841
http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&rank=1&gsfn=simeon&gsln=ruby&sx=&f1=Devon&f2=&f3=&f18=&rg_81004011__date=&rs_81004011__date=0&_82004011=&_82004013=&f7=&f20=&f8=&f9=&gskw=&prox=1&db=uki1841&ti=5538&ti.si=0&gss=angs-d&pcat=35&fh=1&h=4015041&recoff=8+9

and 1861

His first name is mistranscribed in both instances. Still not finding him in 1851. I just used Uk Census collection search with exact match turned off.

I can't even get the UK Census collections to come up. I'm only getting Australian records.

I've got Ancestry.com.au.....but I've always got it before.

No idea why his name is mistranscribed...It's fine on the other sites...

I actually have the Ancestry images in "My Shoebox". I just can't get them to come up in a search.

The search facility is working OK for me but defaults to the dreaded new search every time I log on:(
I think you need a fellow Aussie to check if it's an Ancestry.au problem.

You should be able to log in with your usual Ancestry password at ancestry.co.uk - have you tried that?

Is the "Only records from Australia" box ticked, perhaps?

Ancestry is driving me nuts. If I tick the "exact" box it always says there are no matches which is clearly bonkers. There must be a few Charlotte Grays living in Norfolk! If I untick it I get thousands of results. Very frustrating.

Ah Nell.....that's what's happening to me but when I get results, they are all from Aud.

Yes...I've unticked the 'results for Aus' box.

Mary...I haven't ried that.....Will try now.

Mary..................you deserve a medal....

It's even odder.....????....

I went to Ancestry.co.uk and didn't need to log in. I put Simeon Ruby in the search box and up he pops.

Went back to Ancestry.com.au and still nothing. The only way I can find here there is to go through the records one by one......eg 1841 census or births, etc.

I've added the co.uk site to my favourites now.

Isn't it odd that I only have one sub, but can access both sites without needing to log in seperately and get different results.

Mary....you still need a medal....lol

If you have an Ancestry sub I think you can log in to any of the sites. The results you are allowed to view depend on your level of subscription.

Ah...that makes sense UJ.....thanks.

Still odd that I didnn't have to log in...was already there. They must have a very long memory.

You're very welcome :)

Still odd that I didnn't have to log in...was already there. They must have a very long memory.

I think if you've ever logged in to one of their other sites in the past, they remember you.
