This should be the marriage for OH's ancestors Edward Morris and Elinor/Eleanor Brown.

St Mary le Wigford, Lincoln

http://www.lincstothepast.com/Records/RecordDisplayTranscript.aspx?oid=773628&iid=424682

It's on the right-hand page, almost at the bottom on the left. There is a baptismal entry of 3 lines beneath it in darker ink.

If anyone can read the marriage entry I'd be grateful. I won't put what I think as I don't want to sway anyone.

I can get a 'John' and under that 'his wife'

Is it above that?

Libby, it starts 5 lines up from the bottom of the page. The right-hand page is in two columns and it is the left-hand column.

Unfortunately some of the ink is very faint.

I feel a bit sick now! lol

It's definitely Edward M....& ...nor Brown(e) married
with licence (?) 26th October ???

His name might be Morris. I thought the word that should be her forename looked a bit like Minor (ie Edward's age), but then it doesn't make sense! lol

Edward Morris and Elinor Brown married with licence October something?

Thanks, everyone. That is really helpful. Some of the pages are illegible, so I guess I'm lucky.:)

It's the bit "with Licence" which interests me - I thought it said that.

It is Elinor, and the date is October (corrected) 26th (which I already had from the IGI or perhaps FreeReg).

The date is 1691, so some of OH's earliest ancestors.

Erm..... October 26th!!

Sorry, yes, October ..... (I often say Christmas instead of Easter, Saturday instead of Thursday, for example, when I know exactly what is right, but it comes out wrong! :( )

It was a Monday apparently.

That reminds me, I've come across an entry in the PR's that I'm transcribing for FreeREG which says, "Abigail daughter of Francis Beardsall and Abigail his wife, born 18th December 1684 and baptized the Sabbath after"! I don't think the database will be able to cope with that, so I suppose I'll have to find out what date that would be.

18th Dec 1664 was a Thurday. (I did remember it's the Julian calendar, but don't know how reliable the site I looked at is!)

So the Sabbath after that would be the 21st Thanks, Merry.

If only I could get the baptism c. 1730 for OH's ancestor Thomas Newton. OH's mum swore the family was descended from Sir Isaac, until I informed her he didn't marry and was childless (as far as is known).

However, there might be some other Newton connection, you never know.

This site looks new and interesting:
