1871
Burgh St Peter, Norfolk
Robert Gray 79 abt 1792 widower Head ag lab Topcroft, Norfolk
Maria Pigney 45 servt unmarried housekeeper Burgh St Peter
Laura Pigney 1 granddaughter Burgh St Peter
Robert is a gt x lots uncle of mine. I looked at this and suddenly noticed it said Laura was a granddaughter!!! As far as I know, Robert and his wife Ann didn't have any children. Ann was much older than Robert.

Of course Burgh St Peter isn't on the Norfolk parish register images online on familysearch.

So I looked forward to 1881 (Robert had died 1873) and found Laura here:

Ingales Road Aylsham, Norfolk
John DYBALL Head 40 Swanton Abbott, Norfolk, Ag.Lab.
Harriet DYBALL Wife 30 Burgh St Peters, Norfolk
Laura PIGNEY Stepdaur 11 Burgh St Peters, Norfolk Scholar
William DYBALL Son 7 Aylsham, Norfolk, Scholar
Robert DYBALL Son 4 Aylsham, Norfolk, Scholar
John DYBALL Son 2 Aylsham, Norfolk

I looked for a marriage to get Harriet's maiden name and found a marriage for John Dyball, Aylsham Jul-Sep 1872, but the bride's name is not transcribed.

Any ideas?

I wonder if the 'granddaughter' refers to the relationship between Maria & Laura, not Mr Gray?

Thanks for that Elderflower, though I see its in Suffolk?

Wow!

You have been busy while I've been sidetracked. A lot to digest but it seems Robert isn't connected with the Pigneys except as an employer.

Thanks so much everyone.
