My great great grandmother was Ann Baker born about 1830 and her birthplace was variously given as Billington (1851), Gnosall (1861/71/81), Penkridge (1891) and Pillaton (1901) all in Staffordshire. No father appears on her marriage certicate and I believe she is with her maternal grandparents Robert and Mary Baker in 1841 at H0107 peice 973 folio 44 page 7. A long told family story says that three generations of the family which means that Ann would have been the first of these and this supports the identification.
As none of us have ever been able to find a baptism for Ann, we can only assume that my great x 3 grandmother - her mother - was one of Robert and Mary's daughters - Ann (1808 Castle Church - 1828 Gnosall), Mary (1812 Haughton-1885) or Elizabeth (1816 Haughton-). Ann is a strong possibility, meaning that the younger Ann would be a little older. Mary married in 1833 and Elizabeth had an illegitimate son in 1845 so both are possible, although Elizabeth would be a bit on the young side.
