There's a Benjamin Firth baptism at Tewkesbury 29 May 1839, parents Richard and Ann. His birth was registered Jan-Mar 1839 Tewkesbury. I can't see a death for him but I can't see him on the 1841 census. I can't see another Richard and Ann Firth couple around there, though, so I would think if you get Benjamin's birth certificate it will be the right family and you will get Ann's maiden name.

Edit - ah, just noticed you said Ford was a variation. There is a death for Benjamin Ford in 1840.

Thanks Kite! I have to admit to putting this family on the shelf when I saw Richard didn't have a clue where or when he was born! Luckily the Gloucestershire Registration District have indexed that birth, so I don't have to buy the certificate - Benjamin's mother's maiden name was Godwin.

There is a marriage on Family Search, that took place in 1825 in Norfolk of Richard Firth to an Ann, but I can't seem to find her surname. Will have another look when I am not so tired - been painting all day!

I thought I'd help you find the surname, but I can't see the marriage at all on any FamilySearch site!

Oh well done Merry! Thank you, both of you - I must have been hallucinating on paint fumes yesterday!
