Looking for John's death in dorset, Ancestry only really offers one suitable entry.

Could sks tell me whether this is a young or an old man? I think he may have died in Poole workhouse, but the jury is out on this as the name is not uncommon!

There is a John Hawkins buried 31 December 1879 in Verwood age 86, and another age 29 buried 2 July 1829 Canford Magna, and a John S Hawkins Melcombe Regis age 41 buried 17 December 1838.

Thanks, Joy. Fairly sure the Verwood guy was floating araound at the same time as mine, who made it into the census era, but appears to have left his wife and wandered off. Bum!
