These two girls are possibly the nieces (or friends?) of my great grandmother who was born in 1875. She was the oldest of her siblings (born up to 1890). So they would have been having children from 1900 to the 1920s.

I'm trying to work out who these two girls are. I reckon that the photo was taken during WW1 and that they are around 7 to 10 years old.

Just wanted other's thoughts please, as I'm having trouble trying to find names to fit (so may well be friends after all)...

You've got the name of the photographer, which ought to help as I assume it is embossed over the photo?

The boots, dropped waists & flapper bows suggest a similar date to Merry's photo.

I assume, since young women were called flappers in the 1920s after the large bows they had worn in childhood, that this must have been a fairly widespread but short-lived fashion.

:o I've only just spotted the name of the photographer!

I received it quite small (and wonky), so had to blow it up and crop to make it straight and missed an obvious clue! :d

Here's the blow up of the photograph

I can't actually read the name to be honest!! ;( so hopefully someone can!

Just been looking at Merry's thread, so pre-WW1... 1911-12?

I've had a look through the Ilfracombe bit of Kelly's Directory 1914 and I can't see anything like in there.

Just got to work out who they are now!! :d

Oooooooooohhhhh, could be Merry :)

Interesting that he was a firemen as I have a (possible) volunteer fireman in this family too :)

Fireman on the census doesn't always mean firefighter; it can be someone who worked on steam engines. I'm not sure which it would be in 1911.

That's true. He could have been a fireman on the railways.

Unfortunately, Duke Street no longer exists, as well.
