I don't suppose anyone has access to Chipping Campden burials after 1851? I want to get th death certificate of an ancestor who was living there in 1851 and his widow is still there in 1861 but he's a William Smith so there's a few to choose from in the burial indices :-)

Looked on the NBI3 and there is only one after 1851 but that's a 9 month old in 1852. I think you probably need the parish registers.

Ah, thanks for having a look, Marg

I could have a look and see if the Chipping Campden burial register has been transcribed for you, next time I am in the Gloucester Records Office. Do you know an approximate year of birth, that might help me pinpoint the correct person?

That would be really kind of you, Sabrina - he was baptised in January 1787.

There wasn’t a transcription of burials for Chipping Campden, so I had a look through the parish register between 1851 and 1861 for William Smith’s burial. There were a lot of Smiths in the burial register and I found the following two that are about the right age:

17 Sep 1856: William Smith, of Campden, aged 72
The next entry, which may or may not be relevant:
20 Sep 1856: Sarah Smith, Campden, aged 80

1 Jan 1857: William Smith, Campden, aged 72

And a younger one:
1 Apr 1856: William Smith, Campden, aged 39

I am not sure if that helps you identify your man though!

Thank you very much, Sabrina - well it narrows it down to two:-) I need to have a think and look at the census - am just hoping that the two Williams will be distinguishable on certificates :-)
