I am resurrecting this post in the hope that Irish records may be more easily obtained now?
Basically I want to find out (as in Msg 1) Ann(e) Tierney Name - "official" name and what they were known as Anne Tierney Date and place of birth Abt 1817 Ireland Names of parents unknown Date and place of baptism - if applicable Unknown Details of each of his or her marriages - if any Married to Michael George Gleeson, Ireland (guessing when prior 1832) first child born 1832 Tipperary, then subsequent children Ennis County Clare Occupation(s) - if any Michael was a clerk, Manager of Estates Addresses where they lived (including county if in UK) - and please list which censuses you have or haven't found him/her on (if s/he lived in census times!). - Date, place and cause of death Some children and Anne Gleeson came to Australia. A Michael Gleeson died 26 Mar 1849, Jail Street, Ennis, County Clare. (This is not proven)It was said that Michael died of cholera in Ireland. There is an Ann Gleeson of Jail Street in the 1852 valuations. Date and place of burial. Michael, Ireland, Anne Australia - but not found Details of will / administration of their estate - if applicable Memorial inscription - if any - The children again were Mary Gleeson b about 1832 Tipperary Ireland Ann Gleeson b 1839 in Ireland Eliza Gleeson 1840 in Ennis County Clare Frances Kathleen Gleeson b 1842 in Ennis Co. Clare There is no record of Michael coming to Australia, but the rest of the family went to Victoria at different times. |

If Ann was married, rather than widowed, at the time she arrived in Australia, in 1862, then Michael can't have died in 1849, can he?
Edit - I see it just says "Matron", not "married", on the passenger list. |

Looking at Roots Ireland, they have a church baptism in 1834 in Co Tipperary (North): Anne Gleeson, father Michael, mother Ann Tierney. There may be extra information if you pay to view the record. If you have 25 credits left on that site you could use them to view it, but if not, they only do subscriptions now, with the cheapest being a 1 month single payment subscription at 25 Euros.

Thanks Kate, I will look into that. (the baptism) Ironically the younger Ann is the only one we can't find in Australia after she arrived.
Re Michaels death. I saw where a Michael Gleeson had died but from the news handed down to me, (see below) - I don't think he was ours, as he was supposed to have died from cholera (not sure when the outbreak was) "It has been said that he died of cholera in Ireland. He was a protestant. Clare Journal March 26th 1849 - "This morning in Jail Street, of Cholera, Mr Michael Gleeson, driver of the Limerick Car. On his daughters death certificate in 1904, Michaels occupation was Govt. Official, although it does not say if he is deceased or not." I have discounted the 1849 death. |

Jood, have you looked at the records of the Melbourne Benevolent Asylum, or had someone look at them for you? They're held at the State Library of Victoria.

I am not well enough to travel to Melbourne unfortunately, but will check out the site and see what I can find.
Thanks Kate |
