There is a 55 year old James Saunders living Newcastle Under Lyme in 1841. He is a brewer (is that a standard occ for Saunders...lol).
His wife is Frances but he could have re-married and he has a daughter aged 13 named Caroline. Not many similarities.......lol I'll look again tomorrow. |
1851 has a James Saunders....wait for it.......a GILDER. Age 59 at Wolverhampton.
Check your pms. I'm off to bed.....will return in a few hours...lol |
Yes Libby my James is Gilder he was on daughters baptism in 1818 and also on her wedding cert in 1839 ;; cheers babe will go check mail

I have found this 1841 census which fits in with his occupation and name is transcribed on one of the certs as Sanders what does anyone think ;;but where is his wife unless she dies afer youngest Catherine
James Sanders Age: 43 b abt 1798 Male Parish: Wolverhampton North Seisdon and East Cuttlestone and South Offlow Staffordshire James Sanders 43 James SandersJunr 11 William Sanders 20 George Sanders 18 Ann Sanders 7 Catherine Sanders 5 Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece 999; Book: 8; Civil Parish: Wolverhampton; County: Staffordshire; Enumeration District: 15; Folio: 10; Page: 12; Line: 3; GSU roll: 474627 |
If this is right it would fit in with one Libby found for me in 1851
|
Which was this one ;;
Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece: 2019; Folio: 349; Page: 27; GSU roll: 87422-87423. but thats also Sanders then would need to find out where Ann and Catherine are |
I'm confused, because earlier on I looked at a James Saunders at Horseley Field on the 1851 census, but his occupation was Carrier's Clerk so I thought he must not be the one that Libby found for you as she said he was a Gilder. But that 1841 family are at Horseley Field?

Oops, I was typing at the same time as you!
|
Kate I saw that one but theres also that one above ;;;
Pass Im clutching at straws |
Think I'll have to look at it in the morning, Babs.
|

Aha! I thought that the FamilySearch pilot site would treat Saunders and Sanders as close matches, but now I've realised it doesn't always, I've found these baptisms at St Peter Wolverhampton:
William Sanders 26 Dec 1820, parents James and Caroline George Saunders 9 Jul 1823, parents James and Caroline But then it gets a bit confusing looking for baptisms for the other children from the 1841 census entry - James jnr about 1829-30, Ann about 1833-4 and Catherine about 1835-6. There are two possible baptisms for James jnr, one with a mother Catherine and the other with a mother Maria, and a possible for Catherine in 1836 with mother Ann. Then neither of those 1851 families quite fits with the 1841 family! There is a Caroline Sanders burial at Wolverhampton 20 Feb 1825 but the pilot site doesn't give her age. I would think that's likely to be your Caroline, though. |
OH yes would think that is mother Caroline about then as she doesnt show in that 1841 census ;;;you would think name like that would be easy not this dam hard ;;thanks for them Kate ;;

Nudging this one up now as there were 2 dup threads! This one seems to have the most info so will delete the other one.
*confused* |
Here is a link to the thread about James's wife Caroline:
http://www.genealogistsforum.co.uk/F...light=caroline |
So, looking back through this thread and the one about Caroline, we think this is James in 1851 perhaps with his third wife:
1851: 17 St James Sq, Wolverhampton, Staffs James Saunders head m 57 carver and guilder journeyman b Dudley, Worcs Sarah Saunders wife m 48 b Olbury, Staffs James Saunders son unm 19 b Wolverhampton Class: HO107; Piece: 2019; Folio: 349; Page: 27; GSU roll: 87422-87423. His second wife was Ann Maria who he married in 1827 and she died in 1842. I don't think we found the marriage to Sarah yet, will have another look. |
Didnt find marriage to Sara no only what info that was passed on to me
|
I can't find it, sorry.
|
